Azerbaijan celebrates first IVD
05 December 2002

Baku: More than 300 people today joined the first International Volunteer Day (IVD) celebrations in Azerbaijan by participating in tree-planting activities and distributing information materials in the Seaside National Park, one of the country's largest, in the capital Baku.

A network of five local non-governmental organizations (NGOs) was specifically set up to organize IVD celebrations. Together with the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Tourism and Space TV, the country’s most popular television channel, the group worked together to implement a massive campaign to inform Azerbaijanis about volunteerism and volunteering opportunities in the country.
