Study on volunteering in Bosnia and Herzegovina presented on IV Day
17 December 2002

Sarajevo: A research study on the volunteerism in Bosnia and Herzegovina conducted by the United Nations Volunteer programme (UNV) was presented today to Government, United Nations representatives and local non-governmental organizations (NGOs) on the occasion of International Volunteer Day (IVD).

The research resulted from a national survey participated by 300 local volunteer organizations. The study reveals the extent of volunteerism in the country, profiles of volunteer agencies and the "social factors associated with volunteering, sustainability and perspectives of volunteerism in Bosnia".

It was also an occasion to show how volunteers and volunteerism contribute to achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). UNV Programme Officer Nicola Tiezzi showed a presentation showing the link between volunteerism and the MDGs as well as volunteers in action.
