Bulgaria marks the International Volunteer Day
07 December 2007

Vratza, Bulgaria: Bulgaria marks today the International Volunteer Day with various events throughout the country.

The event is marked for the first time in 1985 under a UN initiative when the world organisation urges governments and non-governmental organisations all over the world to show their respect and gratitude to the volunteers and to raise the awareness of their activities.

Bulgaria's towns of Vratza, Plovdiv, Russe, Stara Zagora, Dobrich and Tsar Kaloyan are among the ones where events drawing the attention of the community on the volunteers' work will be held.

Volunteers from the Sofia organisation of the Bulgarian Red Cross will distribute   leaflets on volunteering to the customers of the seven Billa hypermarkets in the capital.

The Billa visitors will also be invited to become volunteers in the organisation by filling in a special registration form attached to the leaflets.
