The United Nations Volunteer (UNV) programme in The Democratic Republic of Congo has launched “Gloves and Garbage bags,” a clean-up initiative in the capital Kinshasa.
In addition, two UN volunteers, Maxime Oke and Samuel Anoke Ebanja, who are also environmental experts, will be giving presentations to public schools to teach waste management, recycling and biodersity to school children.
Coinciding with IVD, on 5 December, UNV, together with other government agencies, will commemorate National Tree Day by organizing tree-planting activities around the capital.
The IVD celebration will be capped by a friendly soccer match between the Ministry of Environment and UNV staff. The game also aims to raise funds for environmentally-related initiatives.
