Dedication & action: Ethiopia celebrates IVD
Mekele, Ethiopia: The International Volunteers Day was celebrated in Ethiopia at the Martyrs’ Memorial Monument in Mekele, Tigray Regional State on December 5, 2006. The celebration to be accompanied by a one-day annual workshop, was attended by 160 volunteers and representatives of the UNDP Ethiopia Country Office, Voluntary Services Overseas (VSO), other UN agencies including UNICEF, UNHCR and WFP, representatives of various line bureaus of Tigray Regional State such as the regional HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control Organization (HAPCO) and other non- governmental and faith-based organizations.

China to send volunteer teachers to Laos, Ethiopia
Shanghai, China: Around 150 to 200 young volunteers in China will be sent to countries in Africa, Latin America and the rest of Asia from this month as part of China's foreign assistance project, the China News Service said today.

Ethiopian meeting to discuss volunteers' role in development
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia: The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme in Ethiopia is organizing a two-day annual workshop in Bahirdar, the capital of the Amhara State, beginning 7 October 2005 on the theme "Volunteerism for Development”, according to a press release issued by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), which administers UNV.
