A donor spirit for IVD in Ethiopia
16 January 2009

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia: The IVD 2008 commemoration taskforce in Ethiopia decided that volunteerism needs to go beyond building capacity and transferring knowledge. Likewise, those who are not able to build capacity and transfer special skills can volunteer by giving out resources.

Some of the important activities for the day that IVD 2008 commemoration partners regarded significant, influential, and symbolic were: handing over of extra clothes to an indigenous local organization, blood donation, and signing of personal pledges to give free community service.

The day was marked by speeches from several key figures. In addition, flowers of acknowledgement were handed to a pioneer and retired volunteer Ms. Zenebech Negash as a gesture of saying "thank you for your volunteer service".
