Greek volunteers receive awards

Athens, Greece: On the occasion of the International Volunteer Day, the Greek Ministry of Health awarded organizations and individuals for their volunteer work in 2005.

During the event, which was attended by the Speaker of the Greek Parliament, the Deputy Culture Minister and party officials and cabinet members, everyone underlined that volunteer work can be life changing. Karolos Papoulias, President of the Hellenic Republic,  host the awardees at the Presidential Mansion in the evening.

PASOK parliamentarian Angela Gerekou argued that December is a month dedicated to solidarity and she went on to analyse the activities of PASOK’s Solidarity and Volunteerism Sector. Blood donation, information over organ donation are some of the activities, while on the International Children’s Day, PASOK parliamentarians will be visiting the Juvenile Prosecutor, the juvenile detention centre as well as the Centre for Child and Family.
