Popular Japanese artists promote volunteerism on IVD
05 December 2002
Tokyo: Popular Japanese artists took centre stage in Tokyo to promote volunteering amongst the Japanese as part of the International Volunteer Day (IVD) celebrations.
Singers Miura and Cousin and actor Hiroshi Fujioka volunteered to spread the message of volunteerism by giving free performances at the Events Space at the entrance of the Tokyo train station. The performances attracted more than 1,000 people.
The event, dubbed as "Spread Volunteering Festa", was part of the Volunteer Week organized by the National Network Organizations Promoting Volunteering (NNOPV), the largest alliance of volunteer organizations in Japan.
NNOPV also set up counters to exhibit booklets and other publications for public distribution.
