Football match to help cross cultural borders in Mozambique
30 November 2004

Maputo, Mozambique: Namaacha, at the border city between Swaziland and Mozambique, a national football match will take place to promote volunteerism across different nations in Africa to mark International Volunteer Day, 5 December.

This symbolic city on the frontier of these two countries, would be the ideal place where inter-country exchange can effectively play its role to achieve Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) through volunteerism and also advocate the importance of cross-cultural cooperation.

In an honour to this memorial match, the Olympic National Committee and the coach of the Namaacha team have agreed to take an initiative. The day will begin with a match with the women’s soccer team followed by a traditional music and dresses from Swaziland. In addition, the football match will be broadcasted nationwide.

This year’s IVD in Mozambique is not only an example of promoting volunteerism beyond borders but also we have to give a recognition toward the contribution for the achievement of better relations in the southern African region.
