IVD with the underprivileged in Nepal

Female volunteers reduce child-mother mortality in Nepal 
Kathmandu, Nepal: The National Survey of Female Community Health Volunteer (FCHV) has revealed that active mobilisation of female health volunteers has helped reduce child and maternal mortality through the Vitamin A, de-worming tablets, polio vaccination and other campaigns. The country is also marking 20 years of FCHV's Service Day today.  Read article

Volunteers are villagers last hope in rural Nepal 
Accham, Nepal: In the remote areas of Nepal, villagers have no choice but to walk for days to reach the nearest medical facility.  In these rural areas, communities rely heavily on medical volunteers, such as Dhana Thakula, to receive basic treatment and medicine.  Read article

Red Cross volunteers save lives during Nepal political unrest by Khem Aryal

Kathmandu, Nepal: The volunteers of the Nepal Red Cross Society have helped save many lives by providing emergency medical assistance to over 2,000 people, who were hurt during demonstrations in the Kathmandu Valley. The violent clashes virtually paralysed the capital throughout the month of April, causing food shortages and prompting government-imposed curfews.  Read article

Food distribution to street children part of IVD in Nepal 
A workshop on voluntarism and MDGs was led by the secretary of the National Planning Commission in Nepalgunj. Fifty participants from the District Development Councils, three NGOs, and volunteers from the government's volunteer arm, the National Development Volunteers Service (NDVS), attended the successful event.  Read entry
