Volunteers in Nicaragua release new book on volunteerism for IVD 2002

Managua: United Nations Volunteer (UNV) today released a new book, "Memoria, Voluntarios de las Naciones Unidas en Nicaragua 1998-2002, "Sõmbolos de esperanza", to commemorate International Volunteer Day (IVD).

The publication presents the contribution of international and national volunteers in helping the country achieve sustainable development and making International Year of Volunteer successful in Nicaragua. It also discusses the history of UNV’s involvement in the country.

Part of the IVD celebration was the signing of agreement between UNV and seven national university regarding the creation of the "University Volunteer Service". UNV also presented the Volunteer Law initiative and the National Volunteer Network and Action Plan that aim to get people more involved in strengthening volunteerism and voluntary activities in the Central American country.
