Nigeria will hold first 'Volunteer Summit' to mark IVD

Abuja, Nigeria:

In connection with this year’s International Volunteer Day, the first National Summit on Volunteerism in Nigeria will be held on 4-5 December 2007.

Its organizers include the United Nations Volunteers Nigeria, the Nigerian National Volunteer Scheme (NNVS), Volunteer Services Overseas, and the International Association for Volunteer Effort. It is the first of such a summit in Nigeria which is aimed at identifying and bringing together as much as possible all volunteer operatives in the country and to showcase the traditional significance of volunteerism in human development.

It is under the theme "Volunteerism: The Foundation for National Development", several distinguised government representatives are expected to attend the event.
