Agana: A special recognition ceremony was held to commemorate International Volunteers Day in Peru. The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) hosted the event where various companies, institutions and volunteer organizations gathered to recognize volunteers’ contribution to social capital and in helping alleviate poverty in the country.
Following the inauguration by the Official-in-Charge, Jose Gonzales Vigil, prizes were presented to companies and institutions which have been supporting volunteerism in Peru. These included the Telefonica Foundation, Backus and Johnson, the Credit Bank of Peru and AVINA.
Amongst them were some of Peru’s “most successful” organizations, namely the Ministry for Women and Social Development (MIMDES), the Education and Health Ministries, the Inca Garcilazo de la Vega University and the oil company Petro-Peru.
The ceremony concluded with certificates being presented to volunteers organizations for their contribution towards a better society, followed by closing words from MIMDES Vice Minister, Rosa Maria Isabel Ballina.
