National school essay, drawing competition in Sierra Leone

Freetown: For International Volunteer Day, all United Nations volunteers, together with other international and local volunteer-involving organizations, will be holding a national drawing, essay writing and debate competition on volunteering and HIV/AIDS, on 5 December, in Freetown, Sierra Leone.

The drawing competition for primary and high school students with the theme "Volunteerism is...?" High school students will also have a debate on "How Volunteerism can reverse the spread of HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases".

UNV is also organizing a panel discussion on "Minimizing Extreme Poverty and Hunger in Sierra Leone through Volunteerism" for university students at the Fourah Bay College.

Apart from the students, participants include Dr. Francis Kaikai, Head, Poverty Alleviation Strategy Coordination Office; Dr. Sama Mondeh, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security; Mr. Ngolo Katta, Coordinator, Center for the coordination of Youth Activities.
