Here is the final report of the results of our activity on the IVD 2005. We partnered with the Sudanese Oral Health Association, who came up with 12 dentists and 18 final year dental students from the University of Khartoum to volunteer. Two dentists supervised the medical camp.

Information had circulated in the neighbourhood that UNV was administering free dental treatment. The crowd we had on that day was too much to manage. We had a total of 212 patients registered of which 208 where treated. Since night was closing on us, we had to pack and leave the market place. Finally we were able to get back to Khartoum at about 18:45 with all the equipment from the university. As you will read from my report, there were various treatments carried out, including simple tooth extraction, wisdom tooth extraction, impacted tooth extraction and minor surgical procedures. Finally we were able to provide snacks to all the participating student and professional dentist volunteers.

We displayed and distributed posters, leaflets, pictures and models that demonstrate the common dental problems and the way to prevent them. Also, we focussed on the Toombak dipping hazards and other hazardous habits. The main objective was to increase the awareness of this local community, mainly among students and mothers. We distributed about 500 information leaflets in Arabic to our visitors.
