Volunteers for peace and development in Sudan

Khartoum: International Volunteer Day in Sudan focuses on the “role of volunteers in promoting peace and sustainable development.”

This theme is in support of the development efforts of the Government of Sudan in supporting volunteering, peace and sustainable development in the country and the MDG of the United Nations. Several activities have been lined-up to raise awareness on the importance of volunteering amongst civil society groups, private sector and individuals.

On 5 December, there will be a clean-up campaign, tree planting, environmental lecture and cultural activities at El Yarmouk, about 20 kilometres south of Khartoum.

The next days there will be live radio programmes with Mango 96 FM to discuss the theme. Another radio programme on 6 December through the “People and Life Programme” of the Omdurman National Radio Station.

The IVD celebration in Sudan is being coordinated the Sudanese Environment onservation Society, Almanar Voluntary Organisation, Sudanese Consumers Protection Society, Sudanese Society for Women and AIDS In Africa, Environmentalists Society, the Boys Scout, and United Nations Volunteers programme.

Sponsors of the event include radio stations Mango 96 FM and Omdurman National Radio and Coca-cola.
