England - IVD events - Community Channel
'Helping others can help you'. From 10am-4pm at the Novas Contemporary Urban Centre, Liverpool, the community channel will be organizing a conference to celebrate volunteering. For more information, check: volunteeringconference.eventbrite.com/
Building on the success of their 2007 International Volunteer Day campaign, the UK Government’s Office of the Third Sector, and in particular the Minister, expressed their wish for Community Channel to run a further campaign on this theme in December 2008.
The main activity will run in December, with a particular focus on the United Nations International Volunteer Day on 5 December.
As with last year’s campaign, the focus is on celebrating the volunteers themselves, and demonstrating what individuals can get out of volunteering on a personal level, as well as the valuable contribution that they make.
The campaign will consist of a week of programming on Community Channel supported online with a microsite: www.communitychannel.org/you
Social networking is also being utilised with an interactive Fanpage on Facebook.
Respondents to the campaign can also access a free helpline for advice on volunteering and signposting to their nearest Volunteer Centre. This will be promoted by advertising in national and regional press and radio, supported by PR highlighting inspirational stories of people who volunteer.
Posters and leaflets will be disseminated to voluntary organizations including the network of Volunteer Centres throughout England.
Helping others can help you - By giving time and energy volunteers reap rewards and get a lot more back.
It does not matter what your age, background, qualifications or skills - everyone has something to offer.
