Volunteering is part of the US-UK ‘special relationship’.
During talks in London during May 2011, US President Barack Obama and UK Prime Minister David Cameron announced that the two countries would work together further on volunteering initiatives, through major agencies the Peace Corps and VSO.
“The partnership between Peace Corps and VSO will leverage the resources of both organizations to improve the lives of poor and marginalized people, and to promote the value of volunteering in global development,” reads a US-UK joint statement.
Both the Peace Corps and VSO are partners in the International Year of Volunteers tenth anniversary campaign this year, and the news that volunteering is receiving such high-level attention can only be a boost to volunteers worldwide.Click here to read the joint factsheet.
