Prodoc: Asia Youth Volunteers Programme (JTA-00045014/TZA/ZAM))
31 August 2006

This programme provides a mechanism for volunteers from Asia to go to Africa and transfer skills and knowledge in the fields of agriculture and the private sector, especially small to medium enterprises. These Asia Youth Volunteers may be up to 40 years of age and will be need to have the appropriate skills and experience to effectively accomplish the programme objectives.  It is based on long standing Japanese commitment and interest towards development assistance to Africa, which started through such initiatives as the Tokyo International Conference on Africa Development (TICAD) in 1993. Additionally, this programme will complement ongoing efforts by Governments, UNDP and other national institutions that are working towards enhancing competitiveness in business management practices and growth in agricultural productivity in the face of diminishing growth of the private sector and perennial food insecurity respectively.
