Volunteers shave head for pediatric cancer

Volunteers lighten school workload in Mozambique 
Tete, Mozambique: In this remote corner of Tete, near the border with Zambia, cash-strapped parents often treat school as a luxury that is impractical and unaffordable. Volunteer helps children regain childhood through sports 
Claude Marshall, volunteer consultant on refugee sport (UNHCR, 2007)
Claude Marshall has been a full-time volunteer consultant at UNHCR for the past 14 years, helping tens of thousands of refugees around the world. Much of his work since then has focused on raising public awareness and private sector support for sport and education programmes for refugee children. Marshall is preparing to hand over to a full-time successor, thus ensuring that the programmes he started will continue to benefit refugee children. He sat down with UNHCR spokesman Ron Redmond to discuss his volunteer work and the future of the programme he began.   Read article

Supporting Kenya's vulnerable children by Fatou Diop

Swaziland seeks new ways to care for AIDS orphans by Sarah McGregor
Buseleni, Swaziland: Swaziland, a country of just over a million people, is estimated to have 70,000 children who have lost one or both parents to AIDS. Expecting this figure to rise, the government and international agencies have set up a network of some 430 volunteer-run meeting points to care for these orphans and children at-risk.  Read article

Cuban volunteer doctors tend sick children in Haiti
