UN DPI/NGO Conference Draft Declaration
11 August 2011

Bonn, Germany: The Co-Chairs of the Group of Experts of the Planning Committee of the 64th Annual UN DPI/NGO Conference have issued a Zero Draft version of the NGO Declaration that will be submitted for adoption by consensus by NGO delegates at the close of the 64th Annual UN DPI/NGO Conference in Bonn. The Zero Draft version is now available here, as well as on the Conference website for NGO review and comment.

Following the adoption of the Declaration by NGO delegates at the DPI/NGO Conference, the Declaration will be presented to the Host Country of the Federal Republic of Germany for possible submission to the 66th UN General Assembly. The Declaration therefore needs to be in the format of a UN document, and must reflect the focal areas of the Conference: sustainable development and Rio+20, as well as civic engagement and volunteerism in the context of sustainable development.

Those interested in commenting on the draft need to read the following instructions carefully:

Written contributions of 25-50 words only will be accepted. Contributions should be sent to draftdeclaration2011[at]yahoo.com, no later than the close of business New York City time on 25 August 2011. Please indicate where in the draft text your recommendation should be considered, based on the line numbering on the draft declaration.

Once all written contributions have been reviewed, a copy of the revised draft Declaration will be made available for all NGO delegates at the time of registration in Bonn.

During the first two nights of the Conference, Saturday 3 September and Sunday 4 September, the Co-Chairs and German Experts Groups will be available at the Maritim Hotel to receive additional written contributions. These two opportunities are not intended to be major drafting sessions, but rather to ensure that you have an opportunity to contribute, should you wish to do so. These sessions will be held in a room to be assigned and will be open from 6:30 to 7:45 PM, as we must leave the hotel by 8:00 PM each night.

If you have any questions, please email the New York Co-Chairs of the Experts Group, Sean Southey and Richard Jordan, at: draftdeclaration2011[at]yahoo.com.
