Five days have passed since the horrible earthquake hit Sichuan province. By 08.10 on 19 May 2008, the death toll in Mian Yang municipality had risen to 11,874, and 67,579 people are wounded.

On 12 May 2008 an earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale struck Sichuan province in south-western China. As the only UNV volunteer serving in Sichuan, I felt I had an obligation to contribute, so I volunteered to help the victims near my duty station.

Sri Lanka's Chamindra de Silva and another volunteer developer are arriving in Islamabad today to deploy Sahana that is a Free and Open Source Software disaster management system that handles missing/displaced persons, camp management, assistance, trading system, etc. These are the lead developers for the same system, which was used in Sri Lanka to coordinate aid for the Tsunami disaster.
