Expanding the reach of online volunteers 
The UNV Online Volunteering service (http://www.onlinevolunteering.org) allows anyone with an internet connection and the right skills to volunteer for development. (UNV)

Thousands get into online volunteering in Brazil by Voluntarios em Acao
Sao Paulo, Brazil: The first broad-ranged action of online volunteering in Brazil took place in April this year. The movement which summoned young bloggers to participate in a single cause, digital inclusion, marked the beginning of various volunteer actions yet to be carried out by Internet users, with the support of the Volunteers in Action Institute, IVA/SC, which has been opening doors to volunteers for the past 10 years (English / Portuguese).  Read article

Bermuda declares 5 December 'National Volunteer Day' 
Hamilton, Bermuda: The Centre on Philanthropy in Bermuda is partnering with the government of Bermuda to make IVD an offical national celebration - Bermuda's inaugural National Volunteer Day. The day, 5 December, will be proclaimed as National Volunteer Day from the steps of City Hall during a special ceremony, which will include government officials, corporate sponsor representatives and charities.  Read article

York University in Toronto, Canada is investigating the motivational factors that lead young people to become Virtual Volunteers.  The survey is open to anyone aged 18-30 who volunteers online with an organization in the international youth-led development, environmental or social innovation sector.

Google's 10 to the 100 - vote for volunteerism 
To celebrate its 10th birthday, internet giant Google has launched the US$ 10 million Project 10 to the 100, "a call for ideas that could help as many people as possible, and a programme to bring the best of those ideas to life."

Voting begins in January 2009, but for now check out one of the entries, an idea for a free website "in which volunteer organizations, volunteer project coordinators, and would-be volunteers can gather to find, connect and help each other."
