Bermuda declares 5 December 'National Volunteer Day'
27 November 2007

Hamilton, Bermuda: The Centre on Philanthropy in Bermuda is partnering with the government of Bermuda to make IVD an offical national celebration - Bermuda's inaugural National Volunteer Day. The day, 5 December, will be proclaimed as National Volunteer Day from the steps of City Hall during a special ceremony, which will include government officials, corporate sponsor representatives and charities.

A youth choir will sing 'The Giving Song' - The Centre on Philanthropy's new 'anthem' that expresses how each of us has the power to make a difference in our community.

Additionally, charities across the island have been invited to nominate volunteers to be recognised at our evening Volunteer Recognition Reception, being hosted by ACE Insurance Limited.  Volunteer awardees will receive special gift bags and certificates.

The occasion will also be an opportunity to highlight the Bermuda Volunteer Centre - an online interactive system that allows charities to recruit and manage volunteers.
