New Zealand keeps it legal

Here in New Zealand we are in the planning and preparation stage for this year's IVD. As we also have a volunteer awareness week at another time of the year, our focus for IVD is to acknowledge and celebrate the contribution that volunteers make to our community.

Much of the activities will happen at the local level and the regional volunteer centres will have a prominent role in this. Some centres use the occasion for special awards presentations as well as other events which can highlight and publicise the value of volunteers.

Volunteering New Zealand works with other national groups and our government agency the Office for the Community and Voluntary Sector (OCVS) in a co-ordinating role and providing resources which can assist mark this day. Last year an extensive toolkit was produced in electronic form and this has been updated and being made available.

We will be looking to generate national media stories for the day and OCVS is organizing a seminar on measuring the value of volunteering.
