EC calls for civic service and volunteering project proposals 
The European Commission has announced a call for proposals through the Amicus programme, which will support transnational civic service and volunteering projects comprising research and awareness raising activities and the placement of young people within the EU. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, more than 60 million Americans volunteered through or for an organization between September 2006 and September 2007, and they spent a median of 52 hours on their volunteer work. Volunteering essential in civil society: UAE experts 
The first international symposium on developing a 'culture of volunteering' in universities and schools across the country was held in the capital on 29 April. Organized by the Emirates Foundation's volunteer programme Takatof, the symposium, titled 'Learning from the International Volunteer Experience', featured international delegates who stressed that volunteering is a critical aspect of an active civil society.  Visit site

VOSESA is a non-profit, non-governmental organisation based in Johannesburg, South Africa. It was set up in 2003 as part of the Global Service Institute (GSI) network¹ to address the need for well-researched, up-to-date information on civic service and volunteering in southern Africa.

This literature review aims to identify research and information which address issues related to the image of volunteering and volunteers by the public and the media. It is argued that the images of, and stereotypes about, volunteering can have important influences on the recruitment, retention and diversity of volunteers within organizations and, as a consequence, deserves considered attention.
