Namibia: International Year of Volunteer 2001 National Workshop, August 2000

Our National IYV Workshop will take place 9th-10th August, 2000. 80 participants representing National NGOs, government ministries, VASs, UN Agencies, Media, Private sectors and volunteers where invited.

The Workshop is organized in collaboration with the National Planning Commission ( NPC ( government) who is taking the lead and have sent the invitation. A workshop Facilitation Team is formed with representation of NPC, National Youth Council, Namibia Red Cross Society, Namibia Non Government Organization Forum ( NANGOF), VSO, Swiss Development Services, UNFPA, UNICEF and UNDP/UNV.

Attached find the objectives and the programme for the workshop. We will keep you informed on the outcome of the workshop.

Objectives of the Workshop

1. To learn about the different forms and cultures of volunteering in Namibia.

2. To clearly understand the objectives of IYV, which are the recognition, facilitation, networking, and promotion of volunteerism.

3. To identify stakeholders, their contribution.

4. To identify IYV activities in Namibia.

5. To form national IYV committee determine its modes of operation and formulate a plan for action.
