Subject: IYV Bhutan News

Greetings! We are pleased to provide you with an update of developments
for IYV in Bhutan. The Royal Government along with numerous local and
international volunteer organizations, private sector and institutions
have actively taken up the challenge to participate in IYV. Most
significant has been the establishments of a National Steering Committee
and a parallel Task Force. IYV activities to date have been successful
in terms of raising awareness amongst a broad range of stakeholders and
beginning the planning process to mark the year. The overarching goal
is that IYV Bhutan be nationally driven and make a sustained
contribution toward building a better world through volunteerism. To
kick start the planning process a day long Strategic Planning Workshop
was held on June 29 with Task Force members. Please find the attached
Report along with a press release and power point presentation which we
hope you enjoy and may be useful for other countries to use as promotion
of IYV. Look forward to your feedback. Next steps: an inaugural
meeting with National Steering Committee members to be hosted by the
UNDP RR on July 13.

I would also bring to your attention the generous support which is being
provided by UNDP senior management through promotion and active
involvement in programming for IYV. Also, contributions made by
UNV/UNDP intern, Mr. Matt Lowe who is working with our programme until
August deserve acknowledgment. Matt's demonstrated commitment and
abilities have been a great asset to the IYV promotion (see pp pres as
example!) and planning process.

Look forward to working with you.

Regards,
Janette
