Tell us about what you did on International Volunteer Day (IVD) 2008, and find resources to help you prepare for 5 December 2009!

IVD offers an opportunity for volunteer organizations and individual volunteers to make visible their contributions - at local, national and international levels - to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals. Over the years, rallies, parades, community volunteering projects, environmental awareness, free medical care and advocacy campaigns have all featured prominently on IVD.

We want to hear from you. Let us know what you did for IVD 2008. You may send a brief report and photos of your activities to info@worldvolunteerweb.org, subject: IVD - your country - report.

You may also upload videos to our IVD 2008 YouTube group.

Le Programme des Volontaires des Nations Unies (VNU) au Cap-Vert a choisi de célébrer la Journée internationale des Volontaires (JIV) à l'île Fogo, l'une des îles les plus reculées du pays. Les informations de promotion du volontariat sont parvenues aux endroits les plus isolés du pays, jusqu’aux jeunes résidant sur d'autres îles, le but étant de les motiver à se consacrer au volontariat.

Making youth aware in Egpyt

Cairo, Egypt: In Egypt, as well as the spectacular 'Sailing the Nile' central event, there were a host of other IVD activities tackling different aspects of the Millennium Development Goals with a special emphasis on raising awareness among youth.

Sailing the Nile 2008

Cairo, Egypt: The Sailing the Nile for the Millennium Development Goals Campaign 2008 reached its final destination in Cairo on 13 December 2008. The closing event also celebrated International Volunteer Day and International Human Rights Day.

Supporting orphans in Blue Nile State

Damazine, Sudan: UNV volunteers in Damazine – Blue Nile State – Sudan, joined other colleagues worldwide to observe International Volunteer Day. A group of UNV volunteers organized a visit to an orphanage for children.

Cleaning up in Kapoeta

Kapoeta, Sudan: This was the day when International Volunteer Day was celebrated in Kapoeta town, Kapoeta South County of Eastern Equatoria State (EES). It was also the first time the Day had been celebrated in the history of Kapoeta.
