Volunteers in Bonn raise awareness in combating HIV/AIDS 
Bonn, Germany: To mark the International Volunteer Day (IVD) on 5 December, the Bonn-based United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme is partnering with AIDS-Hilfe Bonn to organize activities on 1,5 and 8 December highlighting the work of volunteers and their contribution to combating HIV/AIDS.  Read article

China marks IVD with a forum on Olympic volunteering 
Beijing, China: From 5 to 13 December, the Beijing Youth Federation (BYF) together with UNV China is hosting an "International Volunteering Communication Week". The first part of the event will be part of the International Volunteer Day celebration in the country.  Read article

Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago: A "Volunteer Fair" will be held in Trinidad and Tobago to mark International Volunteer Day, in the capital Port of Spain. Mongolian NGO, volunteer organizations line up several activities for IVD 
Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia: In Mongolia, several organizations came together to organize IVD events focusing raising awareness on HIV/AIDS, the needs of people with disability and young people. UNV India to conduct workshop on national volunteer policy  
Delhi, India: UNV India will conduct a one-day workshop to facilitate dialogues between the government and representatives of several volunteer organizations in the country, to commemorate International Volunteer Day, 5 December, in the capital Delhi. On the same occasion, UNV India will distribute the paper "Volunteerism in India" to help promote volunterism for development in the country.  Read article

Message of the UN Secretary-General Ban-Ki Moon on IVD, 5 December 2007 
The United Nations Secretary-General Ban-Ki Moon emphasized the critical role of voluntary action in achieving global efforts in his message for International Volunteer Day, 5 December 2007. He states that governments can not halt the effects of global warming or obtain the Millennium Development Goals alone. "We need people everywhere to volunteer for this challenge, and to help communities mitigate the effects of climate change. Voluntary action is also critical to build domestic solutions for sustainable economic growth, and to develop capacities to prepare for and respond to natural disasters."  Read article

Message of UNDP Administrator Kemal Dervis on IVD, 5 December 2007 
In his International Volunteer Day 2007 message, UNDP Administrator Kemal Dervis noted that "volunteerism is one of the most important manifestations of trust and solidarity within and between communities." He also highlighted the value of volunteerism to the economy and its critical role in helping achieve the Millennium Development Goals, "Volunteers are critical partners for development and deserve every support and recognition for their contribution to development efforts around the world."  Read article
