People helping people 
Christina Papadopoulou has been working with the UN Human Rights office (OHCHR) in Guatemala since 2008. She is a UN Volunteer who has chosen “to serve society and promote ideals such as social justice and equality.”

Papadopoulou is one of the nearly 8,000 UN Volunteers mobilized every year by the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme, the UN organization that contributes to peace and development through volunteerism worldwide. This year UNV and its stakeholders mark the tenth anniversary of the International Year of Volunteers (IYV+10).  Read article

Global Youth Service Day - 15-17 April 
It's Global Youth Service Day - not one, but three days, in fact - running from 15-17 April.

Global Youth Service Day has happened every year since 1988 and celebrates and mobilizes the millions of children and youth help their communities through volunteering. It is the largest such event in the world, and the only day of service dedicated to children and youth.

Celebrated each year in over 100 countries, millions of children and youth work together with schools, youth organizations, nonprofits, community and faith-based organizations, volunteer and national service programmes, government agencies, and others to address the world’s most critical issues and change their communities.
