Innovations in Civic Participation: Interview with Simona Costanzo Sow, Project Manager for IYV+10 by Sarah Budriunas
Innovations in Civic Participation (ICP) recently interviewed the Project Manager for the tenth anniversary of the International Year of Volunteers (IYV+10), Dr. Simona Costanzo Sow. They discussed the upcoming celebration of IYV+10 and the ways in which various actors can get involved, specifically ways the youth can become better engaged in celebrating IYV+10. With the recent launch of the
International Year of Youth, Dr. Costanzo Sow stressed the importance of globally empowering young people and encouraging them take ownership for their society in order to work towards change.

The IYV+10 logo is now ready!
After many rounds of consultation within UNV and with stakeholders, the final version of the IYV+10 logo is now ready! We will use the dark orange logo, which looks quite like the one used in 2001, but with a change in the shape of the letters inside the UN wreath. For those who are unable to print in colour, a black and white version is also available in the six official UN languages.

Opportunities for Action Document

13th World Scout Moot 2010: 27th July - 7th August 2010
The World Organization of Scout Movement’s 13th World Scout Moot will be hosted by The Kenya Scouts Association on behalf of Africa Scout Region. As the first Scout Moot to be held in Africa, it’s a very special occasion for the whole continent. Young adults aged 18 – 25 years will come together to share experiences and participate in offering of service to communities. It is an opportunity for the young people to discover their full potential, serve the community and have fun with purpose, as they enjoy the Kenyan beaches, culture, safari and adventure.

World Youth Conference, Mexico City, Mexico: 23-28 August 2010
The Government of Mexico, in partnership with the United Nations system and civil society organizations initiated a conference to bring together government representatives and civil society organizations to discuss and reflect upon the role youth plays in achieving peace and development. WYC Mexico 2010 will be a space for the international community to dialogue and reflect upon the role of youth, in their contribution to define actions for the fulfilment of the MDGs and the new agenda of development that will be established in 2015.

The history: The original IYV 2001
Bonn, Germany: In 1997, the UN General Assembly, convinced that the need for volunteer effort was greater than ever and that a year designed to enhance the recognition, facilitation, networking and promotion of volunteer service could make a significant contribution to generating increased awareness of the achievements and further potential of volunteerism, proclaimed 2001 as the International Year of Volunteers - or 'IYV'.
