East Kalimantan: Greening growth on IVD

The mangrove ecosystem in the Mahakam Delta in East Kalimantan is in a critical situation,  reaching the destruction of 80 percent of its total 100,000 hectares. National UNV volunteers are working with local communities and other local stakeholders in the context of local capacity development, community empowerment, and participation and mobilization of volunteers for the sustainable management of natural resources.

During IVD, young people from the local schools will learn about the benefits of mangrove rehabilitation for the ecosystem and will be involved in the plantation of mangroves and in a drawing contest with the theme 'greening growth'.
