Artists volunteer to highlight role of women, youth in MDGs
four-day arts exhibition on the roles of women and youth in the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals
(MDGs), titled "Women and Youth as MDG-nizers" will be launched on 26 October 2005 in Paranaque, the Philippines.
A joint project of Soroptomist International - DasmariÃ±as Salcedo, Young Artists Fellowship for the Environment (YAFE) and Philippine Resources for Sustainable Development, Inc. (PRSD), the exhibition will showcase the creative talents of young artists who have volunteered to create artworks that reflect their aspirations and roles for the MDGs.
A dance interpreting the MDG theme song produced by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Philippines and sung by famous Filipino artists will be presented as well.
The project aims to raise awareness on the role of women and youth, and spark action-oriented collaboration between different stakeholders to achieve the MDGs through visual arts. An information and communications technology (ICT)-inspired item will be showcased to depict the potential role of ICTs in enabling the realization of the MDGs and as part of the National WSIS Youth Campaign led by PRSD.
Youth leaders and representatives from the government, private sector and civil society will be attending the launch. The arts exhibition is being held in cooperation with UN Volunteers and is supported by the WSIS Youth Caucus and the Government of Canada.
