Volunteering a £300,000 gift

Tyneside: A hospital entrance foyer is in-line for a makeover - thanks to £300,000 raised by volunteers.
The North Tyneside Hospital WRVS - now the Hospital Voluntary Service - has collected the cash from their shop at the hospital in North Shields to spend on brightening the entrance for patients.
Today a cheque is being presented to Northumbria Healthcare, which runs North Tyneside General Hospital.
Irene Blacklidge, project manager for the HVS, said it was a tremendous achievement and a credit to the 170 volunteers who help to keep the service going.
"This is money given by local people for local people and every penny will be used in North Tyneside Hospital," she said.
