Volunteers create new HIV/AIDS prevention message
12 January 2005

Some 80 volunteers in Canada, India and South Africa have created a ground-breaking "behaviour changing" programme, "The Three Amigos," to stop the spread of HIV/AIDS.

The Three Amigos is a series of 20 short animated public service announcements (PSAs) designed to encourage the use of condoms to help stop the spread of HIV/AIDS throughout the world. It is available in 41 languages.

The innovative tool was strongly supported by Nobel Laureate Archbishop Desmond Tutu, who has called the PSAs “a powerful communicating tool”, has written an open letter to broadcasters around the world which he calls “an impassioned plea” to “use these PSAs. They cannot be played enough”, he said.
