Barcelona: The 18th World Volunteer Conference, being held in Barcelona, Spain from 17-21 August 2004, brings together 1,500 participants and 120 volunteers from various sectors to discuss and make concrete proposals in promoting volunteerism worldwide.
The conference is a biennial gathering led by the International Association for Volunteer Effort (IAVE) for volunteer sector’s stakeholders -- representatives from civil society groups, government and private sector -- to talk about the role of volunteerism in sustaining peace, curbing HIV/AIDS and delivering services in crisis situations.
This year’s conference was organized with the Spanish volunteer group Federación Catalana de Voluntariado Social.
