Social Volunteerism in Nicaragua

The author,  Ana K. Carrión, a graduate student at the Lyndon B. Johnson (LBJ) School of Public Affairs, discusses Nicaragua's ways to develop and intergrate volunteerism into an overall framework to encourage civic and social participation.

Nicaragua, with the encouragement of the volunteer sector and civil society organizations, drafted a new law on volunteering aimed at encouraging youth volunteerism This paper evaluates the state of volunteerism in the country and the implications of volunteerism as a strategy for both youth engagement and economic development.
