Volunteers Initiative Nepal (VIN) is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to empower marginalized communities, with a focus on women and children, through enhanced educational programmes and whole community training to achieve democracy and raise economic productivity. NICE (Never-ending International workCamps Exchange) 
NICE organizes for people from around the globe to work and live together in cooperative voluntary service work camps in Japan and Malaysia, where participants work directly with local communities for two to three weeks on various projects aimed at engaging communities and developing more sustainable practices.  Visit site
CERFA - Jardín Botánico las Orquídeas 
CERFA is a botanical reserve in the Ecuadorian Amazon that works in the conservation and restoration of rainforest habitat, with a particular emphasis on orchids and insects. Volunteers can help to maintain an inventory of the orchids and pollinators in the reserve, develop education programs for the visitor centre and, in conjunction with local schools, coordinate reforestation programs with neighbouring communities.

UN urges unity against climate change

Google's 10 to the 100 - vote for volunteerism 
Mountain View, CA, USA: To celebrate its 10th birthday, internet giant Google has launched the US$ 10 million Project 10 to the 100, "a call for ideas that could help as many people as possible, and a programme to bring the best of those ideas to life."

Voting begins in January 2009, but for now check out one of the entries, an idea for a free website "in which volunteer organizations, volunteer project coordinators, and would-be volunteers can gather to find, connect and help each other."
