11 May 2004
New Delhi: Voluntary Services Overseas (VSO), an international volunteer-sending organization, is recruiting the second batch of VSO volunteers from India to work in developing countries.
Under its "iVolunteer Overseas" programme with MITRA, a non-profit organization in India, VSO seeks volunteers with skills in managing non-governmental organizations, microfinance, IT training, fundraising and community development work. Deadline for sending applications is 10 June 2004.
VSO volunteer assignments normally last for two years. Volunteers are provided with travel assistance, grants, training support and a modest monthly allowance during the placement period.
Around 2,000 VSO volunteers are currently working in more than 40 countries, particularly in the poorest regions of Asia, Africa, Eastern Europe and the Caribbean.
"iVolunteer Overseas" is an initiative which offers opportunities for Indian nationals to share their skills and learn another culture through volunteering.
