Internet company launches volunteer connection system

California: Cisco, a leading internet and network company, recently launched its Volunteer Connection System, which enables others to request Cisco employees as volunteers and mentors for in-person and virtual projects.

The system brings community volunteering opportunities to nonprofits and Cisco employees in an accessible, web-based application. It matches individual employees and employee teams to philanthropic opportunities in their community. In addition, the facility matches the skills and experience of Cisco employees with non-profit organizations that are seeking specific expertise for themselves or their constituents.

To use the new service, organizations are asked to register with the Volunteer Connection Tool. Once the application has been filled, the organization may request Cisco volunteers for specific initiatives. If an appropriate volunteer is matched at some point, the organization will be notified by email with instructions on how to proceed.

The company encourages one-time events as well as ongoing opportunities. Cisco hopes too that the system will give non-profit organizations access to more volunteers and will save time in recruiting, tracking, managing and communicating with private sector volunteers.

For those unable to visit a Cisco office, online volunteering opportunities exist. Common examples include reviewing written material such as a brochure or content for a website online, helping with the development of a business strategy over the phone and technical troubleshooting.
