CIVICUS: World Alliance for Citizen Participation is an international alliance of over 1000 members from 105 countries that has worked for over a decade to strengthen citizen action and civil society throughout the world, especially in areas where participatory democracy and citizens' freedom of association are threatened.
Inter-American Development Bank (IDB)
A long-standing initiative of the Latin American countries, the Inter-American Development Bank was established in 1959 as a development institution with novel mandates and tools. Today, the IDB is the oldest and largest regional development bank. It is the main source of multilateral financing for economic, social and institutional development projects as well as trade and regional integration programs in Latin America and the Caribbean.
International Association for Volunteer Effort (IAVE)
The International Association for Volunteer Effort (IAVE) is an international non-governmental organization that promotes, celebrates, and strengthens volunteerism worldwide. IAVE has individual and organizational members in some 80 countries around the world.
International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC)
The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies is the world's largest humanitarian organization, providing assistance without discrimination as to nationality, race, religious beliefs, class or political opinions. Founded in 1919, the International Federation comprises 181 member Red Cross and Red Crescent societies, a Secretariat in Geneva and more than 60 delegations strategically located to support activities around the world.
Mary Merrill, principal of Merrill Associates, is an internationally respected consultant and trainer in non-profit management. A licensed social worker, Mary works to strengthen leaders, organizations and communities. She teaches at the Institute for Leadership and Volunteer Administration at The Ohio State University, and is the editor of the Journal of Volunteer Administration for the International Association for Volunteer Administration. Mary has taught and consulted in 15 countries.
The Millennium Campaign informs, inspires and encourages people’s involvement and action for the realization of the Millennium Development Goals. An initiative of the United Nations, the Campaign supports citizens’ efforts to hold their government to account for the Millennium promise.

Portal do Voluntário
Launched in 2000 to celebrate the International Year of Volunteers 2001, Portal do Voluntário is a web community that gathers experiences, knowledge, practical guides and opportunities for volunteer action. In 2004, Portal created the V2V (Volunteer to Volunteer) technology, which is based on the understanding that the volunteer himself should promote volunteerism. Currently, Portal provides this technology to more than 10,000 citizens and social organizations.
